If your attendance at the OCC Infant/Toddler Child Care Community of Practice Gathering requires air travel, there are three major airports that service the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The closest airport to the hotel is National Airport. Metrorail (Metro) access is also available from the airport.

Airports

Reagan Washington National (National) Airport is approximately 5.4 miles from the Royal Sonesta Washington DChotel. A taxicab or rideshare service (the latter of which is readily available) is the quickest way to get to D.C. from National Airport. The average cost of a taxicab will be around $20, but this cost may increase depending on the time of day you are traveling. Rideshare services, such as Uber and Lyft, start at about $23, depending on demand and the time of day. Metro service is available at National Airport by taking the Yellow Line toward Mount Vernon Square, transferring at Gallery Place to the Red Line toward Shady Grove, and exiting at Dupont Circle.

Baltimore Washington (BWI) Airport is approximately 39 miles from the Royal Sonesta Washington DC hotel. Taking a taxicab or rideshare service from BWI Airport to Washington, D.C., takes about 40–45 minutes without traffic. Taxicabs typically cost about $90 from BWI Airport to downtown D.C., but all taxicabs are metered, so the price can vary. Rideshare services, such as Uber and Lyft, start at about $50, depending on demand and the time of day.

Dulles International (Dulles) Airport is approximately 27 miles from the Royal Sonesta Washington DC hotel. Taking a taxicab or rideshare service is the fastest way to get from Dulles Airport into Washington, D.C., with the total travel time taking about 45 minutes, depending on traffic. The only taxicab company that is allowed to pick up or drop off people at Dulles Airport is Washington Flyer, and fares into D.C. are metered and range from $60 to $70. Rideshare services, such as Uber and Lyft, are also available from the airport, and fares begin at about $45 for these services.

Metrorail

Walking Directions From the Dupont Circle Metro Station
Exit at the Dupont Circle Metro station north exit; head south on 20th Street, N.W., toward Massachusetts Avenue, N.W.; turn right on P Street, N.W.; and proceed 0.1 mile to the hotel ahead on the right.

Metro Directions From National Airport
Metro service is available at National Airport. You can take the Yellow Line toward the Mount Vernon Square Metro station, transfer at the Gallery Place Metro station to the Red Line toward Shady Grove, and exit at the Dupont Circle Metro station.

Traveling by Train

The closest Amtrak Station is located in Union Station in Washington, D.C. Once you arrive in D.C., you can get from Union Station to the Royal Sonesta Washington DC hotel via Metro by taking the Red Line from Union Station toward Shady Grove and then exiting at Dupont Circle.

A taxicab or rideshare service from Union Station to the hotel is estimated to take 18–20 minutes and costs approximately $20–$25, depending on the time of day and traffic conditions.

Directions

From Points North (Route Includes Tolls)

• Take I-95 south from New York to the New Jersey Turnpike, to Delaware, and then to Maryland and take Exit 27 to I-495 west.
• From I-495 west, take Exit 33 Connecticut Avenue south toward Chevy Chase.
• Stay straight on Connecticut Avenue and enter traffic circle after crossing into D.C.
• Continue on Connecticut Avenue, N.W., after exiting the circle; travel 0.8 mile; and turn right on Chevy Chase Parkway, N.W.
• Take a slight left on Reno Road, N.W.; continue on Reno Road to Massachusetts Avenue, N.W.; and turn left.
• In 1.2 miles, enter the traffic circle and take the third exit to stay on Massachusetts Avenue, N.W.
• Turn right onto 21st Street, N.W.; turn right onto P Street, N.W.; and proceed 200 feet to the Royal Sonesta Washington DC.

Traveling by Car From Points South (Route Includes Tolls)

• From I-95 north in Richmond, Virginia, take Exit 170B to merge onto I-495 north toward Tysons Corner and take Exit 16 for VA-7 west/Leesburg Pike toward Leesburg.
• Keep right at the fork, follow the signs for VA-7 west/Leesburg Pike/Leesburg, and turn right on VA-694.
• Turn right onto VA-694/Lewinsville Road, continue straight on Lewinsville Road, and use the two left lanes to turn left on Dolley Madison Boulevard.
• Turn right onto Old Dominion Drive, turn left onto Langston Boulevard/Old Dominion Drive, and continue straight to stay on Langston Boulevard.
• Use the two left lanes to turn left onto North Lynn Street; use the two right lanes to turn right on M Street, N.W.; and turn left on 29th Street, N.W. (passing by Wells Fargo on the left).
• Turn right onto P Street, N.W., and proceed 0.6 mile to the Royal Sonesta Washington DC.

Traveling by Car From Points West (Route Includes Tolls)

• Take I-68 east in Western Maryland to Exit 82B and merge onto I-70 east.
• Take I-70 east to Exit 53, merge onto I-270 south, and follow I-270 south to I-495 east toward Baltimore.
• From I-495 east, take Exit 33 Connecticut Avenue south toward Chevy Chase, stay straight on Connecticut Avenue, and enter the traffic circle after crossing into D.C.
• Continue on Connecticut Avenue, N.W., after exiting the circle; turn right on Chevy Chase Parkway, N.W.; and take a slight left on Reno Road, N.W.
• Continue on Reno Road, N.W., to Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., and turn left.
• Enter the traffic circle; take the third exit to stay on Massachusetts Avenue, N.W.; and turn right onto 21st Street, N.W.
